The Harvest Moon Wiki

This article is about Gray, a character from Harvest Moon DS. You may be looking for Gray in his other appearances throughout the series.

Gray (パープル Pāpuru? lit. Purple) is a character in Harvest Moon DS and Harvest Moon DS: Cute. He is one of the eligible bachelors to court in Cute.

Gray is unlocked after connecting DS and Cute to Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town and Harvest Moon: More Friends of Mineral Town via GBA connection.

Gray will sell tools and makers through the telephone when calling Blacksmith Saibara. Once connected via GBA, he will come to visit the valley every Thursday when the blacksmith shop is closed. He likes to spend time at the excavation site when he visits. Finding a gift for Gray is made easier because time does not pass in the mines if trying to find a gem or an ore to give him.

Gray only visits on Thursdays, so it will take longer to court him than a bachelor who lives in the valley. Unlike in DS, your game will continue on if you choose to marry one of the Mineral Town bachelors.

Heart Events[]

Black Heart Event

Enter the dig site between 10am and 5pm on Thursday. You must also have the first mine unlocked.[2]

Entering the excavation site, you'll see Gray. You make small talk, and he compliments you on how well you've been running your farm. Gray feels like he's been working really hard at his job too, but his grandfather is always pushing him to work even harder! He asks if you ever feel like your job is tough.

If you admit that your work is hard, Gray tells you that he feels the same way some days. He knows that he can't quit even if things get tough and encourages you to keep working hard too. Carter and Flora return from their dig and Gray thanks you for chatting with him.

Purple Heart Event

Walk into Vesta's home on a Thursday between 7:20pm and 10pm when Gray has a purple heart color or higher. There must also be a tool equipped on the red tool slot. The black heart event must have been watched prior to this event.[3]

You arrive at Vesta's and start to chat with her when you are interrupted by Gray. He had almost forgotten to bring Vesta back one of the tools that he had fixed for her. Vesta had forgotten too, so she tells Gray not to worry. He gives Vesta back her tool, free of charge. She compliments Gray on the fine work that he does. Gray thanks her and then asks you if he could take a look at your tools also, in case they need to be repaired.

Agree to let Gray inspect your tools. Gray is happy and relieved that there is nothing broken or damaged. He is impressed by how well you look after your tools. He wishes you both a good night and leaves.

Blue Heart Event

While inside the dig site, leave anytime between 8am and 5pm on a sunny Thursday to see this event. Gray must have a blue heart or higher and both earlier heart events must have already been watched.[4]

You will leave te dig site and hear Gray calling out to you. He asks if you'd be willing to spend a bit of time with him before you return to your farm to do more work. Agree to take a bit of a break and you'll sit with him near Carter and Flora's tent.

Gray likes to take a break from digging every so often, but is amazed that Carter seems to be able to work non-stop. He really admires Carter for being able to follow his dreams. Gray asks if you think that having the motivation to follow your dreams is a respectable goal.

If you agree with him, Gray shares that his dream is to become a better blacksmith. Seeing Carter be so motivated all the time makes him feel great too! Gray is happy that you agree with him and lets you get back to work.

Yellow Heart Event

Walk in to the Inn's lobby between 7 and 10pm on a rainy Thursday. All earlier heart events must have been watched previously and Gray must have a yellow heart or higher.[5]

You enter the Inn and see Gray. He greets you, but you notice that he seems to be a little bit tense. Gray admits that he's feeling frustrated and asks if he can talk to you about it. Offer to listen to him.

Gray will tell you that he's losing self confidence in his skills as a blacksmith because his grandfather is constantly yelling at him. Gray knows that being a blacksmith is hard. He doesn't mind the work, but he feels like he will never be as good as his grandfather. He asks for your opinion.

Assure Gray that what he's saying is not true at all! He thanks you for being honest and says that he feels better now. Gray realizes that he can only become better through courage and confidence! If he's moping too much, surely Saibara will just continue to get upset with him. Gray is very grateful for helping him get out of this slump and thanks you.
