Harvest Moon GB was the first Harvest Moon game to be released on [Boy]. The game was later rereleased with color support added.
Plot
When the game starts, the main character's grandfather's spirit appears to you, asking you to renovate his farm. You have a year (4 seasons) to bring the farm back to fruition. After the year has passed, you will be evaluated to see how well you did your job.
Gameplay
Renovating the farm means you must remove all the weeds from the farmland, crush the rocks littering the ground, and use an axe to chop up the tree stumps. You must also till the land and plant crops for profit, and keep animals to sell their produce.
Another feature of this game are the Harvest Sprites. Once you have made friends with them, they will help you out on your farm.
The Farm
The House
The house starts off as very small, but can be expanded by the Carpenter. The house has a TV that predicts the next day's weather, and a small telephone used to trade between Gameboys.
Farmland
The farm has one large field, where crops and grass can be planted. Crops must be watered once a day. Grass does not need to be watered.
Each crop has its ideal growing season and will do poorly if planted at the wrong time of year.
The Village
You can't walk round the village, but you can visit several shops. These shops are:
- Flower Shop
- Juice Bar
- Carpenter
- Church
- Tool Shop
- Restaurant
- Animal Shop
Harvest Sprite Cave
Behind the Tool Shed is a cave where the HS live. To the north of the cave is the Harvest Goddess lake where you can fish. To the east is the hot spring, where the player can rejuvanate him or herself. The West exit takes you to the mining cave, which you can smash rocks in once you have earned the Pickax from your Grandpa.
Harvest Sprites will become your friends if you give them the mushrooms growing in the cave.
